The relationship between the US and Iran, which for a very long period of time is poised over the former imposing sanctions on the charges of sponsoring terrorism, have escalated once again. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, Iranians will chant “Death to America” as long as Washington continues its vicious policies.
However, he cleared his stance and said, the slogan is aimed at President Donald Trump, National Security Adviser, John Bolton, and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo. “It means death to American rulers”, he added.
“As long as America continues its wickedness, the Iranian nation will not abandon ‘Death to America’,” Khamenei expressed in front of Iranian Air Force officers marking the 40th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Throughout his presidential tenure, Trump has openly disrespected the regime and has repeatedly named them as the prime cause of menace. Even during his State of the Union address, Trump remarked: “My administration has acted decisively to confront the world’s leading state sponsor of terror, the radical regime in Iran. . . . To ensure this corrupt dictatorship never acquires nuclear weapons, I withdrew the United States from the disastrous Iran nuclear deal.”
Though Iran has been on the US’ target from more than a while, no other President in history has been this arrogant. Trump’s former National Security Advisor, H.R. McMaster, tried to make the President understand the drawbacks of upholding the Iran nuclear treaty, but he pulled out of the accord soon after he left the White House.
All of Trump’s policies carry their own agenda, and not America’s interest, despite his repeated claims of making America great again. On careful analysis, it is known that Trump only loves to work with people he deems as perfect, and that definition of perfection given by the President is highly biased.
Recently, then-Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis resigned after the President argued that his move to withdraw the troops from Syria and Afghanistan was correct. The replacement of which, Patrick Shanahan, elected on Trump’s statement of perfection, has never even worked on national security policy or bureaucracy, which Mattis was an expert of.
Problems inside and outside the nation run deep into the US with Trump. Correspondingly, when the President shunned keeping contacts with Iran, he also made a mess of the diplomatic infrastructure, which made it possible.
The United States signed the deal with four other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council along with Germany, which are still the members of the deal and are working with the nation. The situation has now grown up to an extent where the UK, Germany, and France have started developing a plan sidelining Trump and helping companies trade with Iran.
The scenario thus lessens the impact of the US sanctions, and also states that Trump’s decision to sanction Iran is naive and reckless. Besides, according to a theory, Iran is also allegedly looking to follow the United States and exit the treaty in order to ramp up its efforts in building the nuclear weapon.
On the other hand, the US continues to support Saudi, and Trump has even proclaimed in the past that the kingdom is a “great ally in our very important fight against Iran.” Even recently, the President turned a blind eye to the killing of Washington Post columnist, Jamal Khashoggi, which is said to have had a major role of Saudi’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
‘Death to America’ chants thus, won’t stop and only intensify until Trump starts thinking like a wise man. Every decision taken up until this point has either destabilized confidence of the markets or made life difficult for a common man, which is not what the President should do for his people.
Iran’s economy followed a downward trajectory since US sanctions returned in August last year. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is given a clean chit in all cases, regardless of the severity of the case and the criticism they attracted from world over. It is understandable why the Iranians demand death for Trump and his close aides, Bolton and Pompeo. The President’s biased approach concerning the US foreign policy is evident, especially to Iran and its fighting back.
