Immigrants Deportation

The wave of immigration has adversely impacted the entire country. From worsening situations at the border to the enforcement of strict regulations to stop the illegal immigration, the citizens and officials have been going through a lot. In the same context, the US government has now ended the immigrant’s deportation policy.

The calls for changing the policies of the deferral program took effect on August 7. Earlier, the policy allowed the immigrants, who were receiving a life-saving medical treatment in the US, to remain in the country for a period of two-years if they could prove that they are receiving essential medical treatment that is not necessarily available in their neighboring countries.

Even though the program did not provide lawful immigration status to an alien, and could be terminated by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at any time, the fact that the immigrants were prohibited from being deported gave them an advantage of staying in the country for a longer time.

With the US government’s latest decision, the entire process of providing facilities is seen to have been vanishing in the thin air, thereby entirely ending the benefitting policy.

The Immigration Services agency within the Department of Homeland Security has revealed that it would not allow essential medical treatment in the US to become a base of avoiding immigrants’ deportation ahead. Since, the agency specializes in the country’s immigration system, the decision has brought fear amongst the immigrants, who have been undergoing various treatments in the country amid the excuse of their unlawful presence.

Though the agency officials on Tuesday confirmed that the present policy would not change other deferment programs such as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and is not applicable for military personnel.

“USCIS field offices will no longer consider non-military requests for deferred action, to instead focus agency resources on faithfully administering our nation’s lawful immigration system. This redirection of agency resources does not affect DACA or other deferred action requests processed at USCIS service centers under other policies, regulations, or court orders,” a spokesperson for the agency added in his statements.

The critics believe that since a majority of the annually made deferred action requests are not approved, the new immigrants’ deportation policy would surely help in removing the aliens from the country. The Immigrants office would now be held responsible for carrying out all sorts of appropriate discretion after reviewing the facts related to the deportation of an individual.

The ending of the most benefitting immigrants’ deportation policy is one of the latest efforts made by the US government followed by the earlier policies, which denied a green card to the legal immigrants. While it has been welcomed by many Republican leaders, the immigrants saw it as a huge trouble in their way.
