Conservative Radio Host and former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh announced his candidature 2020 presidential elections on Sunday. He also said that the current President is unfit for the office and should be replaced.
Walsh announced his campaign in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on “This Week”, and said that “everyone” in the Republican Party believes that the President is not fit for the job. He said, “We’ve got a guy in the White House who is unfit, completely unfit, to be president and it stuns me that nobody stepped up.”
His announcement came while President Donald Trump was in France for the G7 summit, making a controversial statement that adversely affected the global stock market.
During his interview with Stephanopoulos on Sunday, former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh said, “I’m going to run for president. I’m going to do whatever I can. I don’t want him (Trump) to win. The country cannot afford to have him win. If I’m not successful, I’m not voting for him.”
“I’m not trying to be cute or coy. I’ve told you before — if somebody’s going to get in there and go after him … it’s got to be done soon. You’re running out of time. But more importantly, these are not conventional times. Look at the guy in the White House. These are urgent times.”
Walsh has made various controversial statements regarding former President Barack Obama and 2016 presidential candidate Hilary Clinton. His prime controversial statements included accusations on Obama for hating Israel, circulation of rumors that Obama is Muslim and provoking violence against Obama during sniper attack at the Dallas Police.
The race for 2020 presidential elections is already due to the policies of Democratic Hopefuls on grave issues like climate change.
Even though Joe Walsh has claimed that the Republicans believe that Trump is unfit to serve, polls show the result otherwise. According to the polls, the approval rating of the Republican voters has been above 80 which contradicts his statement.
Besides the approval rating, another reason to believe that Walsh might not be successful in race against Trump is because Trump’s campaign was initiated a year ago to strengthen the hold on states governed by the Republican Party. Trump is known for his controversial statements and impromptu decisions, like purchasing Greenland.
Former one-term GOP chairman’s announcement has retaliated by many Republicans. Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh responded to his announcement by saying, “Whatever”.
On the other hand, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel said that President Trump has the support of Republicans as he has “delivered a long list of incredible accomplishments for country”.
