Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney of the President, seems to be at unrest since two of his business associates being charged with campaign finance violations were arrested on Thursday. The news of arrests has sent shockwaves throughout the country with increased scrutiny from the party and opposition leaders.
In the past, Giuliani was widely praised and credited for bringing major improvements in the quality of life and lowering violent crimes rates in the New York City. Though he was actively nominated for various elections, he declined all races, and instead remained in the business sector.
Becoming Trump’s personal lawyer was Rudy Giuliani’s choice which he made in 2018, defending the President at every single step, preserving the national head’s integrity. But the recent arrests of his business associates at Dulles International Airport with one-way international tickets has brought tensions for Giuliani.
Both the arrested men Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman were Ukraine-born businessmen accused of organizing a straw donor scheme to circumvent campaign finance laws, partly by funneling $325,000 to a pro-Trump super PAC using a fake energy company they created.
The federal prosecutors also accused American businessman David Correia and Andrey Kukushkin for their involvement in the master plan. Andrey Kukushkin was arrested in California and Correia is yet to be arrested. While their indictment did not mention Giuliani’s involvement in the entire arrests yet he has become a center of media attraction.
One of the major reasons is Rudy Giuliani’s act of asking help from his business associates Parnas and Fruman in Ukrainian investigations against former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, which brought him into spotlight. Although the arrests do not directly connect to Giuliani’s efforts, the fact that he has been one of the persons pushing allegations of corruption against the father and son cannot be neglected.
The Democrats could use this as an opportunity to target the President following the 2020 elections, diminishing any situation of pressing charges against Biden. They have now been planning to use both the arrested men as key witnesses in their impeachment probe against the President, alleging him in the entire scenario.
Rudy Giuliani’s acknowledgement of working with the arrested business associates raises questions on his tenability. Whether or not is he indicted is something that will be known over time and if yes it would definitely severe his relations with the President. But the real question here is will Giuliani be forced to quit his office like many others, who have been fired or forced to depart amid the heightening battle of the 2020 presidential elections.
