It is not for the first time that the Democrats have raised impeachment calls against the President. However, the Senate Republicans have successfully managed to thwart any such calls or perils surrounding the President or his tenure.
Once again, the Republican sentors have come together to overrule the impeachment demands put forward by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic lawmakers. The GOP lawmakers have issued a warning, saying that the Democratic lawmakers will experience violent reactions, if they continue with their impeachment calls.
Republican lawmakers have also challenged Pelosi to continue on the road of impeachment as they believe the demand is baseless as President Trump has already promised to release an uncensored copy of his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. They also claimed that it will negatively impact the support of voters to the Democrats and will prove to be a waste of time.
Amongst many of the Senate Republicans, Sen. John Kennedy, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee that overlooks the impeachment process, said, “My response to them is go hard or go home. If you want to impeach him, stop talking. Do it. Do it. Go to Amazon, buy a spine and do it. And let’s get after it. I think the public will feel like it’s more harassment.”
The GOP members claimed that the impeachment will not only blow up in the face of Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer but also in the face of other Democratic lawmakers.
Once again the Senate Republicans have been caught under the fury of impeachment calls, as a whistleblower complained about Trump asking Zelensky to launch an investigation into Democratic hopeful Joe Biden for his role in saving his son’s business in Ukraine, in return of military aid.
The entire scenario has not only raised questions on Biden and his power as the former vice president, but also on the relationship of President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Considering the past polls conducted by NBC News–Wall Street Journal and ABC News–Washington Post, Americans have not been in favor of impeaching the President. This means the claims made by the Senate Republicans might come true in terms of Democrats losing supporters.
With all things considered, it seems that impeaching Trump might prove a Herculean task for the Democrats. The prime reason for the same is that even if Democrats manage to start the impeachment trial somehow, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can deny the trial, thus safeguarding the president from impeachment.
